Blackhawks to open season with six rookies on the roster
Blackhawks seems to be their opening night roster.
The Hawks jersey sent forward Alexandre Fortin back to his junior team, sent to the keeper, Ivan Nalimov back to the KHL, and put Andrew Desjardins injured reserve Monday. Both Brandon Mashinter and Mark McNeill scored waivers on Monday, according to TSN. If they are removed, they will be sent to Rockford.
This would leave the Hawks with a maximum of 23 players - 13 forwards, eight defenders and two goalkeepers. This means that rookies Nick Schmaltz, Tyler Motte, Vinnie Hinostroza, Ryan Hartman and Gustav Forsling all have made the team, as well as the 26-year-old Czech import Michal Kempny.
Desjardins was injured in the third period to prevent the shot in Saturday's preseason finale. Quenneville said he will have four to six weeks.
